Horus
Horus is the Latin rendering of the Greek Horos and the Egyptian Hor. He was a solar god constantly identified with Apollo and represented by a falcon or a falcon-headed god.
In the Egyptian pantheon we find some twenty Horuses. Probably the 2 best known forms are those of Harpocrates (meaning Horus-the-child) and Horus the Elder who avenged the death of his father, Osiris, by overcoming Seth and wresting the kingship of Egypt from him.
The memory of the power of Horus lives on in the jewelled eyes worn for protection and the eyes painted onto ships throughout the entire Mediterranean area. These are of course modified versions of the Eye of Horus.
